Banglist: Explosive entry to the Berlin scene with energetic and erotic live shows

by | indieBerlin

Nordic 4-piece BANGLIST bonded over listing celebrities they’d like to bang and thought they might just as well make music together. These newcomers manage to combine all your guilty pleasures while still sounding fresh and are sure to give ABBA a run for their money.

With indieBerlin’s favourite up-and-coming Berlin band set to perform at the legendary LoFi Lounge @ Schockoladen on 6th February, we thought it was a good time to dust off this interview with them from back in early 2018. If you want to experience Berlin’s most promising young band that’s coming out right now, head to Schokoladen on the 6th – we’ll help you with our tickets to win – either in the FB comments or write to win (at) indieberlin.de!

indieBerlin: How does the songwriting process work for in your band?

Pรฉtur: The first four to eighteen hours we generally try to find as many jokes involving Per’s name as we can. He is usually very Perplexed about this.

Per: What? Yeah.

รsdรญs: Our main goal is always to write the best song possible, so not holding back on anything is a very important part to our songwriting process. Songwriting to us is very much about letting go of your predisposed ideas and letting the song work it self out.

indieBerlin: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person, what would you say?

Pรฉtur: I wouldn’t really say anything to a deaf person.

It can be so extraordinary when you think you know a song like the back of your hand but then you start noticing little interesting things in the background.

indieBerlin: If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in?

Per: In what ever genre those Leonardo DiCaprio movies fall into, where he acts all insane. Hunky Psycho Thriller?

indieBerlin: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Pรฉtur: Well, we kind of think about our inspirations like the great Pyramid of Giza. The four bottom corners are Kiley Minouge, Cindy Lauper, Blink 182 and Frank Ocean, and the top is the amazing Bloodhound Gang.

รsdรญs: No, you dumb.

Ylva: We get our inspirations from everything from epic 80’s power ballads to electronic synth bands like The XX and Hot Chip.

indieBerlin: What was the nicest compliment you once got?

รsdรญs: I’ve gotten some amazing compliments in my life.

Per: I haven’t.

Pรฉtur: Yeah people have said we have good chemistry on stage, which makes sense because we like playing with each other.

indieBerlin: How do you feel about covering a song?

รsdรญs: We really like cover songs. It can be so extraordinary when you think you know a song like the back of your hand but then you start noticing little interesting things in the background. So, we really like cover songs but the best thing about them is unfolding them and creating something different but familiar in our own way.

indieBerlin: How do you think the audience in Berlin is different to the audience in Iceland?

รsdรญs: ย There seems to be a little more seriousness to music-listening and concert-going here in Berlin. In general Icelanders go to concerts as a pre-party before they head downtown but here there seems to be more focus on the show as the main event.

We would like to use this platform to reach out to Mark Ruffalo, who is on top of Banglist’s Bang List

indieBerlin: Do you prefer to play big festivals / stages or smaller club gigs?

Per: We’re not in a situation to be picky..

Pรฉtur: Right now, our goal is to make our small club audiences feel like they’re in a stadium and when we get to the stadiums we’ll try to make them feel like they’re in a small club.

Per: That’s really cheesy…

indieBerlin: With whom would you never share the stage with?

Per: Again, we’re not in a situation to be picky.

indieBerlin: Do you want to greet somebody?

รsdรญs: We would like to use this platform to reach out to Mark Ruffalo, who is on top of Banglist’s Bang List. You know where we are bby.
