Scottish Indie-Folk-Pop six-piece Pelts have been together for 9 years and are now releasing their first album ‘A Little Less Lost’ with independent label Iffy Folk Records.
Since 2011 the ‘melancholia-tinged-folk-pop’ band has been releasing songs that have garnered acclaim from BBC 6’s Steve Lamacq and with their track ‘Another Place’ claiming a spot in The Herald’s Top 50 Scottish songs of 2018.

The albums opener ‘Dolphin Road’ is an indie-rock flavoured mantra full of dynamic instrumentation and rich vocals singing, ‘leave me, leave me, leave me alone’ in full earnest all while conjuring the sensation of having one’s sight set for the open road. This Dolphin Road leads us to ‘Beaks’ a track that is driven by an engine of warm, tribalistic, precisely steered percussion, a foundation that serves as a vehicle for pulling one’s self up and finding the shortest line towards ‘being happy ever after.’

Next we have the album’s first single,’Throwing Sticks’ an off-kilter, danceable and groovy romp full of memorizing synths and with a deep solid bass and kick pulsing through out, while being singed by fiery electric guitars striking down with full chords. The vocal performances and lyrics to ‘Throwing Sticks’ bring to mind an eclectic mixture of Arcade Fire and Bell & Sebastian.

A third of the way through ‘A Little Less Lost’ we arrive at ‘Tidal’ a heavy footed dance along the ocean with a slight Leonard Cohen vibe. This tracks haunting, wholehearted, tightly wound male/female vocal duet is seductively juxtaposed by electric surf guitar and the shadowy undertow of other worldly snyths and ghostly organs.
