Code Red feel like it’s time to have a chat. A menstrual chat. Yes, you heard them.
According to organisers Mahsa Majnoni and Brenda Kindermans, the taboo that is the menstrual cycle of a woman causes a great social injustice and they feel we can no longer just look away. So they ask you to join CODE RED on Thursday March 7th for a celebration of that bloody time of the month filled with pads, tampons, music and some kick-ass women!
With International Women’s Day just around the corner, CODE RED is raising awareness for period poverty to help provide hygiene products for women* in need around Berlin. Period poverty is a complex issue that’s not being talked about enough. Millions of girls around the world are forced to miss school days every month because they simply cannot afford to buy period products and homeless women have to resort to unhelpful or unsafe alternatives such as napkins which get soaked almost instantly. You would think that the situation here is better, right? But did you know that Germany is one of the many countries where period products are still taxed as ‘luxury items’ with 19%?
CODE RED is addressing these issues and the stigma around periods in a panel talk moderated by Anna Dungal and completed by Danielle Keiser, Armeghan Taheri and Sky Deep. Live music of the night will be by Berlin-based musicians Maria Kelly and Moa McKay.
The entry fee is 2€ but by donating a pack of tampons or pads, you’ll get in for free! The donations will be put into care packages and distributed to local women shelters and food banks.
