by | indieBerlin

Basement Bash Vol.XI – Hip Hop edition headliners Dope est Dope will wow any listener with theirย booming 808 basses, potent vocal hooks and elaborate arrangements.

This producer duo collaborates with various artist from the Berlin scene to concoct colourful and creative creations, drawing on influences from various genres and styles. indieBerlin checked in on them in anticipation for next week’s gig.

We really like Watermelons.

indieBerlin: How did you get together as a band?
Dope est Dope: A common musician friend of us introduced us to each other as he could sense already that we might connect very well on a musical level. The first time we met we already made a track together that we liked and that continued with every session.

indieBerlin: Tell us something about yourself that you always wanted to say but no one has ever asked youย yet.
Dope est Dope: We really like Watermelons.

indieBerlin: How does the songwriting process work for you?
Dope est Dope: Of course there is no set formula or process but usually Sinan would start jamming on the keys while Nico gathers interesting drum sounds and samples until one idea sticks out that needs to be recorded into a loop and from then on we build up on that.

indieBerlin: If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in?
Dope est Dope: Perhaps Thriller mixed with some comedy elements…

โ€œYour music gives me goosebumpsโ€

indieBerlin: Where do you get your inspiration from?
Dope est Dope: Lai Raw’s Dj Sets

indieBerlin: What was your biggest stage fuck-up?
Dope est Dope: Midi cable didn’t work so we could hardly finish the song.

indieberlin: What was the nicest compliment you once got?
Dope est Dope: โ€œYour music gives me goosebumpsโ€

indieBerlin: How do you feel about covering a song?
Dope est Dope: We would probably never cover a song live. We rather like to remix songs in the studio and give them a whole new context.

indieBerlin: Do you dream in colour or black and white?
Dope est Dope: Very colourful

indieBerlin: Do you see your songs in colour or in black and white?
Dope est Dope: Even more colourful!

Dope est Dope will play Basement Bash Vol.XI on May 18th at Marie Antoinette. Send an email to chloeastruc [at] indieberlin.de to enter to win tickets.
