indieberlin: Tell us a little bit about your musical background

Kamoos: We are Kamoos. We’re made up of Juliette, Vivi, Felix and Andreas. Juliette, from London, has been making music her whole life and used to be in a band called Juliette and the Sin – a heavy post-rock, punky band. She’s also played with Camera and Kitty Solaris. Vivi is a garage-rock veteran and was front-woman of the Mokkers and now plays with Voodoo Beach as well as Kamoos. Felix has drummed with all sorts of bands including International Noise Pollution, Imaginary French and, recently, Interbellum, but Kamoos is his main project. Andreas – the newest Kamoos member – is an eclectic musician who plays pretty much every instrument and uses this skill to create movie scores. He has also played with Camera and still plays with Highest Sea.

indieberlin: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person, what would you say?

Kamoos: Imagine walking in a crooked line through a checkered landscape.

indieberlin: If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in?

Kamoos: We’ve been called “David Lynch-y” so many times that I would have to say…Disney! Nahh, it would be David Lynch.

indieberlin: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Kamoos: Everywhere – seriously. Going out and listening to bands, listening to music at home, sometimes even street noises. Anything from Gabor Szabo to the Minutemen to M.I.A.

indieberlin: What was your biggest stage fuck-up?

Kamoos: We’re pretty good at not fucking up but possibly when Juliette’s microphone got stolen by an audience member mid-gig who then proceeded to run off into the crowd with it. It was then brought back but the gentleman went on to punch her guitar. All in a day’s work…

indieberlin: What was the nicest compliment you once got?

Kamoos: We were once told we were very ‘sex-positive’ which I liked. Anything that makes you feel positive about yourself and sex is a good thing in my books.

indieberlin: With whom would you never share the stage?

Kamoos: I wouldn’t not share the stage with anyone. If you’re a wanker, sharing the stage with you is a good opportunity to call you out on that. So maybe we should share the stage with Theresa May. That could be useful…

indieberlin: In ten years you look back to today and think:

Kamoos: Fuck me, life was interesting.

indieberlin: Do you dream in colour or black and white?

Kamoos: Definitely colour. I sometimes can’t tell the difference between a dream and a waking moment (unless my waking moments are in black and white…)

indieberlin: Do you see your songs in colour or in black and white?

Kamoos: Depends on the song. Sometimes colour. Sometimes black and white. Sometimes technicolour. Sometimes neon. Sometimes greyscale. It’s allll in there.

indieberlin: Do you want to greet somebody ;-))?

HI MUM!
