La Buvette Wine tasting evening

by | Eats & Drinks

If I were to select another county’s cuisine to live on for the rest of my days, it would be French.

The very idea of living off of cheese, bread, pastry, and wine is so romantic, relying on long walks and sex with beautiful French men to burn off the calories. Which brings me to one of my favorite restaurants in Berlin.
It became a firm favorite
My boyfriend and I discovered La Buvette a few years ago now when looking for somewhere to explore a good wine all the while eating amazing food. It became a firm favorite and we often return with visitors. Now, the boy and I have been known to polish off 4 bottles of Bordeaux in one sitting, which is when we began talking to Sebastien, the owner, about the possibility of a wine tasting.
A carefully selected food pairing with Sebastien’s world class Sommelier expertise

The plans were now well on their way. We met with Sebastien to create our evening. A carefully selected food pairing with Sebastien’s world class Sommelier expertise to guide us in what we should be tasting. 16 of our closets friends attending the evening in the intimate restaurant.

Now, I must say when discussing wine tasting, you never know what you’re going to get. I expected a few cheese boards dotted around the table with sipping measures of wine. How wrong I was. We were presented with a four course meal each and more wine you could shake a stick at.

The menu read:

To start: A gorgeous Goat’s cheese salad with toasted baguette paired with
– Cremant de Loire, Domaine des Galloires (Loire Valley).

A creamy and indulgent Tartiflette with accompanying cold cuts served with
– Coteaux du Languedoc, Cuvรฉe “Finalmente”, Mas Peyrolle, 2016 (Vermentino- Languedoc)
– Cotes De Blaye, Chateau Cailleteau Bergeron 2014 (Bordeaux)

A heavenly strong blue cheese served with
– Crozes Hermitage, Dauvergne et Ranvier 2015 (Rhone Valley)

And finally, a warm, rich, chocolate brownie served with
– Maury, Vin Doux Naturel, Domaine de la Preceptorie 2014 (Languedoc)
Everyone left full, tipsy and with a bit more knowledge on French wine.
Sebastien guided us through where the wines had come from an how the food should affect and change the flavour of the wine. Everyone left full, tipsy and with a bit more knowledge on French wine.

We’re already in talks about another Christmas themed evening and potentially starting our own wine club once every six weeks or so. I’d like to thank all the staff for their care, service (such a novelty in Berlin) and their delicious food and wine. Another positive of the evening, the whole thing cost only 28 Euros per person, absolute incredible value for money.
you will not be disappointed I assure you
If you’re looking for somewhere authentic to go this cold winter, look no further than La Buvette in Schonhauser Allee, you will not be disappointed I assure you. They take card, speak French, German and English and it’s non-smoking. What more could you ask for in Berlin?
