LeVent is tearing it up at Basement Bash on 28.3 @ Urban Spree – we interview them

by | indieBerlin

Like a drunken driver, LeVent swerves up over the curb, drives straight through the garage and total their ride somewhere out in a goat farm. Bleating at it’s most danceable, they carry listeners far away to get lost in nice nonsense, stuck in heavy forgetting, and transfixed on what was, leaving you thirsty for more…
Around since 2015, they’ve shared the stage with the likes of Kadavar, The Underground Youth, Die Nerven and Preoccupations, they play something like post-punk/Krautrock, they’ve had their music used in various TV series in the US, and they’re co-produced by anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), who is also putting them out on his label.

We’re excited to have them playing at the upcoming Basement Bash, 28th March @ Urban Spree, together with The Indian Queen and a surprise mystery band (!) – raffle tickets to be had at the bottom of the interview, otherwise it’s 5€ pre-sale (Eventbrite), or 10€ on the door – and well worth it!

LeVent started playing live in late 2015, shared the stage with a bunch of talents including Kadavar, The Underground Youth, Die Nerven and Preoccupations, to name a few, and evolved into one of the most interesting acts on Berlin’s underground scene. The trio with their heavy played post-punk sounding Krautrock found themselves with a fast growing enthusiastic audience. They self-released a four track demo EP on cassette in 2016, from which two tracks were played in the American TV-series ‘Gotham‘. In June 2017, they released their debut album on a recordings ltd., the label of Anton Newcombe by The Brian Jonestown Massacre (who also co-produced the album with Andrea Wright from Parr Street Studios Liverpool), and supported The Brian Jonestown Massacre in Germany, Austria & Switzerland in 2018.

indieberlin: How did you come up with the name LeVent?

Maryna: The band started with me and a guy on guitar, Deniz Tulay Levent. Heike soon joined, and after a
few drummer changes, Deniz unfortunately left and along came Frenkie. We decided not to replace Deniz
but honor him by keeping his name for the band.

indieberlin: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person, what would you say?

LeVent: Have them ride a rollercoaster

indieberlin: If your music was a movie, which genre would it be in?

LeVent: Tatort meets The Twilight Zone

indieberlin: Tell us a secret about yourself.

LeVent: No
Describe our music to a deaf person? Just put them on a roller coaster….
indieberlin: What was the last concert you went to?

Frenkie: die Nerven

Heike: Drangsal

Maryna: Slift

indieberlin: What was your biggest stage fuck-up?

Maryna: doing a 20cm stage dive at `at.tention` festival

indieberlin: How do you feel about covering a song?

Maryna: it can be cool, but depends on the song and context of the request

Heike: like covering a song

indieberlin: With whom would you never share the stage with?

Frenkie: Josef Goebbels

indieberlin: In ten years you look back to today and think: __________

LeVent: that was 10 years ago

indieberlin: Do you want to greet somebody ;-))?

Frenkie: a shout out to Stuart Flint of A Recordings
