Single review: FUSHIA – Gold

by | indieBerlin

indieBerlin are excited to present FUSHIA – the experimental Danish duo whose latest single Gold drops today!
Comprised of identical twin sisters Mathilde and Nathalie, their unique brand of indie-electronica results in a dark dream-pop outing, deliciously produced and with an intriguing melody line. The track addresses the concepts of jealousy and burden, with the sisters stating “Gold considers that little green-eyed monster inside every single one of us that’s never satisfied. We’ve all heard it, and it’s scary how that voice simply tends to control you more and more once you first start listening to it!”.

The delicate balance between the instrumental section and compelling, fluid vocal lines is rather remarkable, and sure to leave you humming this tune for days. It’s a captivating blend of different musical influences – sometimes the accompaniment has a distinctly 80s-esque feel, whilst at other points, it’s rather Eastern in its execution, with melismatic melodies and smooth movements.

Lyrically, it’s a raw and no-nonsense endeavour. The pair have stated that “vulnerability can be just as powerful as strength and that [they] can use their defiance to create art,” – a theme which shines through in their music. The production values are eyebrow-raising to say the least, resulting in a punchy track rich with an ethereal, eerie atmosphere. The harp (or perhaps pizzicato violin?) is a perfect addition, leaving us with an alluring texture – you’ll hear something new every time you listen to this composition.

These two are definitely a pair to keep your eyes on – if this latest record is anything to go by, they’re sure to have a colourful future ahead of them.

Considering they’re still shiny and brand new, we’re curious to see what else this exciting duo have to offer. Piqued your interest? Take a look at FUSHIA’s earlier work here.
