Vincent Sala Interview

by | indieBerlin

Vincent Sala will be performing this week at Indierberlin’s own event. Ahead of this, we chatted to the multi-instrumentalist about his emotionally-driven brand of music so you know what to expect when you attend.

Hailing from France, Vincent Sala now calls Berlin is home. In his new home, he plans to further explore the mystery of the melody and experiment within his own sound in order to further explore his token melancholic-energetic blend of music. One of his emotionally-driven performances was once described by a fan as “catchy meets darky arrangements that can never be forgotten”, and you can catch one of these atmospheric performances on Thursday at a very special indieberlin event. We caught up with Sala ahead of this to get his own take on his music.

indieberlin: How did you come up with the name Vincent Sala?

Vincent Sala: Easy, I just picked up mine.

indieberlin: How does the songwriting process work for you / in your band?

Vincent Sala: As it is a solo project, I usually bring the finished songs to the musicians who will perform with me on stage. But It can also happen that we are trying some ideas together when a song is still fresh and this is the most enjoyable moments.

indieberlin: If you had to describe your music to a deaf person, what would you say?

Vincent Sala: I will probably show my heart with my hand.

indieberlin: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Vincent Sala: from my life experience, mainly from my feelings, the ones I’m not always able to express.

indieberlin: What music do you listen to when you’re touring?

Vincent Sala: I listen to Radiohead, the Beatles, the Doors, the Beachboys, Neil young, Serge Gainsbourg etc… and Chopin when the night is coming 😉

indieberlin: What was the last concert you went to?

Vincent Sala: I went to see Bob Dylan in Berlin earlier this year.

indieberlin: What was the nicest compliment you ever received?

Vincent Sala: Recently someone told me that one of my songs was his favourite, not only from my repertoire but of all time. I was surprised and very touched.

indieberlin: How do you feel about covering a song?

Vincent Sala: Depending on the song, or I feel emotionally great playing and singing it or I see it as a challenge when it’s technically quite difficult to play, in both cases, it’s part of a learning process to me. It can also be inspiring for my own creativity, for example, I sometimes try to remember a song I like and then I’m switching to something unexpected which become a start of something new.

indieberlin: What do you think you will look back at today in ten years think?

Vincent Sala: What a great experience Berlin was!

indieberlin: Do you see your songs in colour or in black and white?

Vincent Sala: in colour 🙂
