cutting-edge

0815 – no thanks! The compilation offers space for experiments, is open to all genres and offers a musical odyssey beyond the mainstream. It aspires to be uncompromising and unconventional, both innovative and progressive. In the previous editions, masters of alternative expression such as Sado Opera, Bonaparte, Ani Klang, Sookee, Catnapp, Malonda, Pilocka Krach and Symbiz could be heard.

genre bending

Good music knows no genre. Neither does Berlin. Whether experimental electronica, Afro-American funk and soul music, rap, pop indie sounds or booming rock – the sound of the capital is versatile. Therefore we are looking for a cross-section of the most innovative, versatile and exciting sounds of the city.

hand-picked

The compilation 2019/20 was curated by a jury of experts from the different areas of Berlin Musik Biz. This year they were Tina Adams (Caroline International), Petra Husemann (Motor Music), Ueli Häfliger (Flux FM), Olaf Kretschmar (BMC), Katja Lucker (Musicboard Berlin) and Desiree Vach (Ingrooves, Snowhite).

LISTEN TO BERLIN: AWARDS

The 18 artists who make it onto the compilation are also automatically nominated for the LISTEN TO BERLIN: AWARDS. Since 2017, the Berlin Music Commission has honored remarkable achievements from all areas of the Berlin music industry with this award.

In addition, the winners will be offered multiple live performance opportunities each year, and representatives of the Berlin Music Commission will present the compilation at trade fairs, festivals, congresses and industry events such as the Berlin Music Commission. SXSW (US), A2IM Music Week (US), MIDEM (FR), Primavera Pro (ES), Reeperbahnfestival (DE) and c/o pop (DE) as an auditory business card for the Berlin music scene and thus offers the artists included in the compilation the opportunity to present their work to national and international multipliers and potential business partners.

As a network that will evolve over time, the Berlin Music Commission will be publishing a digital-only compilation this year. In cooperation with the digital distributor Zebralution, we will provide the artists with a digital set-up, playlist pitching and digital marketing tools to promote their individual tracks. Together with our media partners FluxFM and Ask Helmut, Zebralution will help make the curated tracks visible.

And what’s more there’s also a public vote: so jump in and choose your favourite band, artist, song (and while you’re there, maybe you could remind them that Berlin being the international city it is, maybe they could think about having an English version of the site?

The compilation will be released on 05.11.2019 for the LISTEN TO BERLIN: AWARDS.
