Synästhesie festival : psychedelic sound at its finest

by | indieBerlin

A rousing third edition

If Berlin is an eclectic city populated by dilettantes and full of events, festivals and artistic venues always reinventing themselves, there is one thing that remains irreplaceable in its cultural landscape: the Synästhesie festival.

The Synästhesie festival is dedicated to psychedelic music in many of its permutations, from zone-out garage rock to trapper and synthier traditions. For its third edition the festival’s program and identity is stronger than ever. The founders of the event went from enjoying their favorite bands in the very unique 8MM bar, to inviting their favorite bands in this same sacred place.

The origins

The festival was born at 8MM, a beloved, dive-y rock bar that has provided a haven for Berlin’s local scene as well as a gathering place for musicians passing through town. Synästhesie is an event organized and presented by the people working behind the 8MM bar, the festival and the place are therefore viscerally united. On the 16th and the 17th of November, come and discover a psychedelic lineup that previously had the chance to cite bands such as Spiritualized, The Soft Moon, Tangerine Dream, and The Horrors in its programming.

A fantastic psych-lineup

The 2019 edition of the Synästhesie is even more bold, modern and intense than the last two times. With artists like Stereolab, Deerhunter, Black Lips, A Place To Bury Strangers, Michael Rother of Neu!, Priests, and  Holygram, this year’s bill continues Synästhesie’s tradition of including acts both spacey and heavy, new wave and artrock music as well as new and old. The festival will also have the honor to receive the musician Anton Newcombe and Alan McGee, the creative director and manager of the Creation Records label. An iconic label on which McGee signed My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, The Others Teenage, Oasis, The House of Love and The Libertines.

The festival has grown in the last three years and went from an event dedicated to a small community within the city to an essential event which brings together people and genres. Join us on the 16th and 17th of November at the great Kulturbrauerei for the amazing and irreplaceable Synästhesie festival, buy your tickets here
