Win tickets to see Etta Bond at Prince Charles on 27th March!

by | indieBerlin

The British singer Etta Bond is known for her straight-talking lyrics, shaved head, and soulful vocals.

The Guardian has nicknamed her the “skinhead soul princess” and this moniker seems apt as she is quickly becoming something like royalty on the music scene.

If you haven’t heard any of her own music (obviously you have, but let’s pretend for a moment), then you will recognise her distinct voice from the multitude of collaborations she’s done, and the numerous songs on which she has featured. She’s laid down tracks with some huge names like Wretch 32, Labrinth, Plan B, Skepta, and Tom Misch.

Despite the number of famous pals she might have, don’t that fool you into thinking that this woman can’t make it on her own strengths. Her voice alone would be more than enough to make her stand out from the crowd, but she’s got a whole lot more than just an exceptional sound.

Etta isn’t afraid to say what she is thinking, and she’s renowned for her honest lyrics, often with strong feminist overtones

Both her songs and her music videos explore what it is to be feminine, female sensuality, and sexuality. She has stated before that she thinks it’s important to share how we feel about things, since “We are conditioned into believing it’s better that we hide our feelings from the world, that feelings are a weakness.” And Etta doesn’t seem to be afraid to say exactly what she’s thinking as she brings up everything from love to sexual frustration: “How many times have you pictured me naked?/ Cause I call you a friend but I know that I’m fakin/ Swear sometimes I look at you/ Things I wanna do, friends just don’t do”.

We can’t think of a better city for this incredible lady to come and sing her heart out about sexuality and feminism than Berlin! She’s making her way here as part of her European tour on 27th March 2019.
