manifesto
who we are. what we think. why you should join us.
“This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love. Stop over analyzing, life is simple. All emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms, and heart to new things and people, we are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once, seize them. Life is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them so go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and share your passion.”
– The Holstee Manifesto.
Until we finish our own, this one works pretty well as a placeholder 🙂
A Message From the Editor
“Together with my partner Mia Morris I started indieBerlin in 2008 as a blog covering independent culture in and of Berlin. By 2019 we’d become a blog network, booking & events company and PR agency – focused mainly on music.
Towards the end of 2019 my partner left to focus on new adventures. Fast forward to 2020 and I realised I wanted to change some things.
I love the independent music and culture scene in Berlin but I’m also excited by fashion, innovation, indie tech, alternative living models, indie travel and more.
At the same time I realised I wanted to look beyond Berlin; while indieRepbublik is meant to remove our geographical limitations, so that we can focus on the amazing things going on all across the globe, still of course we’re (presently) based in Germany; so we’d also like to shine a light on stuff happening in places like Leipzig, Hamburg, Munich and the Ruhrgebiet.
As we extend beyond indie music/film/fashion to look at sustainable living and life choices, roads less travelled, unusual people doing unusual things – while still celebrating the best independent culture from all over; and as we focus our events section across Germany (and hopefully soon even further afield), I dearly hope that you’ll stay with us as we embark on the next leg of our journey. And I’d like to thank our reader who have stayed with us this far – and of course all the amazing reviewers and other team members who have been with us over the years, and who have made indieBerlin/indieRepublik what it is today.
