Robert Grant is an established figure on the spoken word scene, appearing at many of the best poetry shows and festivals, worldwide. His laser-sharp, darkly witty and honest takes on modern life have made him popular within his chosen city of Berlin, where he lives with his wife and daughter.
On January 11th at Bar Bobu, Müggelstrasse 9, Robert Grant will launch his new book.
‘Beat The Grass’ is his third book, following 2015’s ‘Naked in the Coffee House’ and 2010’s ‘Can’t say Why’ and observes the last five years of his life.
His style is brash, bold and flies in the face of traditional and slam poetry, aligning him more with the Beat poets of 1950’s America.
Rob says: “I started this book with a completely fresh pallet. For the first time I couldn’t drag together pieces from other projects. I had to write again…not edit and collate, which made this book a personal battle. Poetry to me is all about emotion. Each poem should find the emotion in the situation…the many facets and philosophies of life condensed to a form that is easily digested. I see so many poets using overly complicated diction, with no more order than to see themselves intelligent. This, to me, is a lie and that lie infects their words with a level of pomposity, that I want no part of. Unless you’re striving for beauty, levity and understanding of your words, then what are you striving for?”
On the night, he will also have wonderful German writer Wolf-Peter Arand. Wolf is an author, writer and dramaturge. He released his first novel in 2011 and has written many produced screen plays.
…to finish, there are members of Danish rock band Cryoshell who will be joined on stage by the lead singing of Hjertebarn for a “One Off” special performance. Great musicians, doing what they do best.
This is a unique, one off event will never been seen in Berlin again, so be there.
It’s at Bar Bobu, Müggelstrasse 9, 10247 Berlin, Germany
